Renovating your bathroom on a budget
Renovating your bathroom on a budget
For many of us the reality is, to fully renovate our bathrooms it could cost us up to $25,000 easy. But, luckily there is always a few options that won’t break the bank or the budget and they don’t involve ripping the bathroom it out and starting all over again. Firstly, look at the tiles currently in your bathroom, can they be re-used, whether some or all of them because if they are in good condition why waste them and your money, and perhaps a simple resurfacing of them will give your bathroom fresh new look. Look at other colour options and think about respraying them as this is always a good option plus you should also be able to spray your vanity unit, and should you be lucky enough to own one, your bathtub can also be resprayed. This can be an effective but also cost saving option to change the look and feel of your bathroom.
It’s not recommended to re spray floor tiles however should laying new tiles over the existing ones be an option, try this however you need to be but beware of raising floor height if this is your preferred option. There are now so many options when choosing new tap fittings and accessories and this simple idea can offer the bathroom a new updated and modern look, and the good news is most are not expensive. Try this also for your shower and bath fittings. Replace the toilet seat and toilet roll holder with a more contemporary range should give some impact on the whole look of the bathroom. If you have a shower curtain replace it or if it’s in your budge replace the shower curtain with a glass shower screen. Not only does this give your shower a much cleaner and sleeker feel to the bathroom plus it is way more effective in keeping the water from spraying out into the rest of the bathroom.
If your bathroom is also used for your laundry room ensure you have ample cupboard space to hide everything from sight giving the room a clean sleek feel rather than clutter everywhere. Perhaps the washing machine itself could be placed inside a cupboard rather than visible to everyone. Avoid anything unsightly on the bath edges or vanity unit but keep it simple and clean, a scented candle perhaps, even fresh flowers and think about the use of bigger mirrors should your bathroom be narrow or small. Replacing the railing where towels hang is also cheap and effective when updating your room.
Bathroom updates don’t have to be expensive and can be done effectively on a budget and whilst you are renovating the bathroom it’s a good time to organise a building inspection report to ensure there are no leaks in the room that could lead to major problems down the track. It’s cheap and can be one of the best investments you make to ensure everything is in order. Contact us at Australian Property Building Inspections and book your inspection now
