Bathroom Mistakes and simple ideas to fix them
For many of us the idea of renovating seems quite simple at the time yet once complete we realise just what a disaster we have made. Taking a little time to ensure you have deciding on the style of the bathroom before you start not mid-way through renovations is important. Learn what your strengths are and what weakness you may have and ask for help when required. Simple and effective bathroom renovations can look great but over styling or too many clashing styles can see the bathroom suffer when it shouldn’t. Creating a bigger looking space in a small bathroom is important, the same as creating a warm feeling should you have a large bathroom area. Below is a few of the basic mistakes made by many of us when renovating our bathrooms and all of them can be avoided.
Mistake No.1
Most of us go for the same look and feel with our tapware but look around and don’t settle on the first taps you see. Look for something a little different than everyone else has and when in doubt choose simple and elegant tapware as they are timeless. The current trends include matt black tapware and the often overlooked aged brass taps as they are both affordable and eye catching. The great thing is neither will date and wall colours can be endless when matching whether it is paint, tiles or wallpaper. The same tapware used in the basin can also be used in the shower and bath without overkill.
.Mistake No. 2
I am a huge fan of plants inside a home and your bathroom is no exception but keep it simple especially if your thumb is black not green. Simple cacti and succulents are awesome, both large and small with a simple one colour pot the most effective and the great thing with both type of plants they require little water or maintenance.
Be sure to choose a plant that is hardy indoor and if your bathroom receives little sunlight or light opt for the very hardy mother-in-law tongue. Sporting a wonderful green and yellow leaf they thrive with little light or attention and can create a very dramatic effect in your bathroom. Plants look wonderful in a bathroom that lacks space or warmth by bringing colour and drama to the room and are affordable for anyone’s budget.
Mistake No. 3
We really make a big mistake in renovating our bathroom by not providing enough storage space. When renovating one of the biggest mistakes is choosing a basin with no cupboards below and the cupboards we have barely fit the most basic of items yet our bathroom is often home to more items than we realise. Look for cupboards that provide depth and allow the wife’s makeup or your beauty products to have a home rather than all shoved together on the exposed shelf. The usage of cupboards can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your bathroom.
Mistake No.4
Instead of opting for the usual square mirror for your bathroom like most of us, why not try a mirror more modern to give you warmth like a round mirror. As the mirror is important to your bathroom choose the right style and size for your bathroom as larger mirrors can add depth to a smaller size room. Look at adding a frame to the mirror for a more sophisticated look, you will be surprised how good it can look.
Mistake No.5
Poor lighting in a bathroom can dramatically ruin the atmosphere, especially if it highlights an odd or cluttered space. Try installing lights in the middle of the ceiling or around the mirror to help brighten up the room. Mirror lights also serve a functional purpose, so when you have a dark bathroom you will be able to see when putting on your make up correctly before you leave the house.
